The so-called “read view” integrated in Firefox can disable most distractions and offer a clutter-free experience, which can come in handy during information research or late-night reading sessions.

    Designed to provide an improved “reader mode” in Firefox, the Unclutter add-on removes any distracting elements from the page you are visiting, while bringing to the table a few additional features and functions in comparison to the browser’s built-in mode.

    After a quick installation, a new button is added to the browser’s toolbar, and you are presented with a welcome page that describes how the extension works and provides one-click examples to try.

    While on a page that includes written text, you can hit the Unclutter button to activate it and strip the page you are visiting of ads, background images, extra buttons, videos and photos, popups, and so on. In other words, you only get to see the text to read, without any distractions that might make you lose focus.   Please keep in mind that, although we found no issues during our tests, it might happen that some webpages are incompatible with the browser extension, but only as exceptions.

    Don’t think that Unclutter’s reader mode is not customizable. On the contrary, there is a menu that allows you to zoom in and out the text, widen or shrink the reading area and even change the theme by switching from black to white and vice versa. To put it another way, the developer of Unclutter for Firefox also thought about eyesight protection in case you are using the PC after the sun goes down.

    Any paragraph or text section that you find interesting can be highlighted with the mouse cursor. The extension allows you to take a note right next to the selected passage.

    Saving your notes to the library requires no special action. You can find all the highlighted article sections in the “Highlights” tab of the Library, which also hosts articles saved for reading them later. Details about the reading progress are also available.

    Unclutter for Firefox surely comes in handy to those who often read articles on the Internet. Whether we are talking about reports, news, research pages or, for instance, reviews, this add-on can prove useful for creating a distraction-free environment. While it does not feature text to speech and font changing as the built-in “reader view” in Firefox, it does come with a few extra tools that adds to its value.
