  • A picture viewer is not at all something out of the ordinary, as even Windows comes with an embedded one. Nevertheless, there are third party applications such as DesktopPic that allow you to enjoy your favorite images, but in a rather different manner. How is that? Well, it allows you to view photos, create and run slideshows on your desktop, with no frame or classic window.

    DesktopPic requires no installation. It unzipped folder contains the main executable only. As you double click it, you will be prompted to place the pictures you want it to display inside the same directory.

    If you place a single picture inside the folder, then that picture will be displayed on your desktop in a frameless window. If more pictures are placed inside the folder, the application runs a slideshow with a custom delay between pictures.

    Clicking and double-clicking on the displayed images will have no effect whatsoever, but hitting the “ESC” button will reveal the main window of the application, the one which bundles all the settings.

    You will be greeted by a window that looks pretty rudimentary, with all the settings in a layout that does not consider design or looks, but functionality only. There are few options to deal with in DesktopPic.

    First of all, you can configure it to run with Windows and thus enjoy your favorite pictures as the computer starts. Secondly, there are options to display the name of the image files and stretch smaller pictures. Not ticking this latter option instructs the application to preserve the original size of the image.

    DesktopPic is definitely not a novelty, but it does have a feature that looks pretty interesting: image stamping. One or more images can be simply stamped onto the wallpaper, making the picture part of the desktop background. In other words, you can use images with a transparent background to create interesting collages directly on your desktop.
